His Highness Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq Al Said
Minister of Culture and Heritage - Sultanate of Oman
This journey represents and recreates a significant event in the heritage of Oman, and underlines and celebrates the long standing ties and friendship between Oman, UK, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
In this, the 45th year of the rule of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Al Said, I also hope that this journey will serve as an inspiration to young people, and demonstrate that little can be achieved in life without hard work, determination and tenacity.
I wish the journey team the very best of luck in their efforts, and look forward to welcoming them safely back to Muscat.
His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales
His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales - United Kingdom
British Ambassador to Oman, Jon Wilks, said: “I am delighted that HRH The Prince of Wales has agreed to be a patron of this event alongside HH Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.
This trek is a wonderful example of the long history of cooperation between the United Kingdom and the Sultanate of Oman. 85 years ago the first recorded crossing of the Empty Quarter was made by a mixed Omani-British team. Now, we see again a similar such partnership take up that same challenge”.
His Excellency Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al-Thani
President of Qatar Olympic committee
This journey serves to remind the younger generations of what makes the previous generations proud of their belonging, and of their achievements in various fields. It also aims to confirm that the Gulf youths are able to withstand difficulties to achieve their goals, on the basis of inherited ethics and values.
I wish the participants will be crowned with success in this journey, which aims to recreate the glories of ancestors, and our bright history. We pay tribute to this wonderful initiative, which promotes links between our Gulf countries and contributes to the consolidation of responsibility, self-reliance and patience. These targets may look different in the twentieth century, but they share the same feelings, the same strong will, and the same perseverance which is the secret of success.
